The SAKURA Kilt
This kilt was the fifth in the ‘Wimbledon Series’ for artist Kevin Kane. A wearable expression of his love for Japanese culture that began in my own garden in N.E Scotland, with the cherry trees I planted several years ago. My drawings of their blossom were used to create the digital embroidery pieces produced by Moray Reach Out — a social enterprise which provides work to vulnerable young adults in my neighbouring town. Each were handsewn onto the cashmere cloth from Johnstons of Elgin, lined with vintage kimono silk, finished with Japanese samurai steel buckles and custom handcut leather straps.
