BESPOKE KILTMAKING;

A WEARABLE WORK OF ART

ACME ATELIER is the home of bespoke kiltmaker Andrea Chappell, who champions the heritage craft of kiltmaking — often in combination with printmaking — to create unique kilts in both historic and contemporary styles that are wearable works of art.

My kilts focus on the resourceful use of textiles, incorporating deadstock and vintage fabrics alongside classic tartans and heritage tweeds, in a slow and sustainable means of making that upholds the traditional handstitched method — now listed as an endangered craft.

These uniquely personal kilts are cherished modern heirlooms — many are commissioned to celebrate special life events. All are created to pass down through generations, crafted to suit your style and shape in Moray, Scotland.

Every kilt is entirely bespoke, taking approximately 12 weeks to complete, with every detail sourced to your specification. As such, they are priced individually, depending on your choice of design, details and cloth.

Please contact me through any of the channels below if you would like to discuss a commission for yourself, or gift for a loved one.

IV36 AND VINTAGE+

IV36 IS THE ATELIER’S CIRCULAR ECONOMY INITIATIVE

This is my circular economy initiative that redesigns and remakes existing garments, textiles and fibre resources, commiting 20% of the profits from each sale to support training for a person from Forres, (IV36) in the endangered craft of kiltmaking.

VINTAGE + BESPOKE

Pairing a bespoke kilt with a vintage garment creates an individual and contemporary kilt outfit that is a sustainable style choice. My restored vintage jackets and knitwear can be bought individually, or offer a starting point to create a bespoke kilt using a co-ordinating fabric from my vintage, end-of-roll and deadstock collection.
